Start developing your project in a supportive environment with expert guidance from writer and tutor Lucie Brownlee. \nThrow yourself into writing your memoir\n\n\nEach workshop will explore a different element of craft\, from research\, planning\, and ethics to challenging memories and finding your own distinct voice. Sessions will incorporate lively discussion and timed writing exercises linked to each weekly topic. Peer feedback and the sharing of work are two of the most helpful (and admittedly daunting!) ways to develop and improve your writing. Her memoir Life After You was published in 2014 by Penguin Random House. Based on her award-winning blog ‘Wife After Death’ (Blog North Awards 2013)\, it is a Sunday Times best seller and was a Richard and Judy Autumn Book Club pick 2015. \nHer pilot TV script Wife After Death won Best New Comedy Script in the All3Media New Voice Awards 2021 and is now in development with Objective Fiction and Channel 4. \nHer novel The Mother was one of the final four in Mslexia’s Novel Competition 2020\, and in 2018 she was awarded one of three Northern Writers’ Awards for Fiction for her novel-in-progress The Song of Annie Chapman. \nHer short stories – ‘T-Shirt Weather’ and ‘Late Night Final’ – were shortlisted in the Guardian Short Story competition and Soho House Magazine respectively. DESCRIPTION:Come along to our Face of Engineering family fun day\, where you can learn more about engineering and discover new innovations from the engineers themselves.  \nAfter huge success last year we are delighted to bring back our Face of Engineering Festival in May this year. With lots of opportunities over the course of the week\, our family fun day is sure to bring it all to close with a special day of learning\, exploration and innovation.  \nThe day will include talks and demonstrations from industry professionals\, a chance to have a go at creating your own designs and opportunities to learn from the best the engineering industry has to offer.  \nOur festival aims to challenge stereotypes\, celebrate diversity and inspire the next generation.  \nBooking information  \nEach child attending must have their own ticket. DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Common Room with NEIMME to celebrate the launch of Les Turnbull’s new book The History of Lead Mining in the North East. \nLes Turnbull’s book ‘The History of Lead Mining in the North East of England’ was first published in 1975. This fourth edition has been greatly enlarged by the addition of new chapters and the volume is now printed in colour throughout. This is a companion volume to ‘Coals from Newcastle’ and is an essential guide to the mineral mines of the northern Pennines. \nThe first half of the book provides an historical introduction and a description of all the principal processes involved in the mining\, dressing and smelting of lead ore. Throughout\, it deals with the communities established in the dales and the lives of the men and women connected to the industry. The second section provides ideas from exploring the region by car and on foot. Bicentenary celebration in collaboration with the Robert Stephenson Trust. \nAbout ‘Progress in Design and Manufacture: The Steam Locomotive 1825-1830’\, Dr Michael R Bailey MBE\, railway historian and archaeologist.\nRecent archaeological and archival research into some of the earliest locomotive products of the Stephenson factory has revealed further understanding of the circumstances under which designs evolved resulting in such rapid progress being made in the critical years before and after the opening of the Stockton & Darlington and the Liverpool & Manchester Railways.
